Train Claude on Your Coding Standards in Real Time
Build a feedback loop that teaches Claude your team's style without repeating yourself
You have project documentation in place but Claude still generates code that violates your naming conventions, error handling patterns, or file structure. Every session requires you to correct the same style issues manually.
That is the gap this drop closes. It is a automation skill built for Claude, and it takes about ten minutes to set up the first time. After that it runs in under a minute.
Who should use it
Developers who already use Claude regularly but still edit every code suggestion for style consistency
How it works
The skill file does five things, in this order.
1. Create a standards capture prompt. Ask Claude to extract patterns from code you mark as correct and add them to a running style guide.
2. Feed Claude three examples of your best code. Show actual files from your codebase that represent your ideal structure, naming, and error handling.
3. Mark deviations during review. When Claude generates code, point out specific style violations and ask it to add the correction to its working standards.
4. Request a standards diff after corrections. After each correction session, ask Claude to show you what new rules it learned and confirm they match your intent.
5. Export the accumulated standards weekly. Save the refined standards document and use it to start fresh conversations with full context.
What comes back
Claude will adapt to your exact conventions with each interaction, reducing manual edits by half within two weeks
The mistake to avoid
Keep one conversation thread dedicated solely to standards refinement for the first week. This concentrated feedback builds a more coherent style guide than scattering corrections across multiple chats.
Running it
Save this as SKILL.md inside a folder named after the skill, then drop the folder into your Claude Code skills directory or upload it to a Claude Project. Claude reads the frontmatter to decide when the skill applies, so keep the description line intact. For a one-off run, paste the prompt block directly.
Where this fits
On its own, one skill saves an hour a week. The compounding happens when three or four of them run in sequence on the same input, the same transcript that produces a scope of work also produces the follow-up email and the project brief. 1. Apply these standards automatically
2. If I point out a style issue, acknowledge it and update the standards document with the specific rule
3. Show me the updated rule when you add it
When I say "show standards diff", display only the rules added or changed since our last review.
When I say "export standards", provide the complete current standards document in a format I can save and reuse in new conversations.
